Becoming a first responder for menopause is quite a privilege.
This means that we can offer advice, support and guide you to where needed; to appropriate services to help you manage your symptoms and concerns, as well as caring for you within our practice.
So you think it is just for us older ladies??? Not in the least- let's start looking out our younger ladies where you are born biologically female. I have made you all aware that we start to lose our collagen from the tender age of 25 and it can feel that it is all down hill from there!
The menopause is a natural event but the timing of it and symptoms are as individual to the person affected as the difference between you and me.
In a nutshell the decreased oocytes lead to an increase in the FSH/LH (Follicle stimulating hormone and Leuteinizing hormone) and a decrease in oestrogen creating a negative feedback system.
Did you know that there is also a condition - Induced menopause which can be caused from medication, surgery , cancer treatment such as chemotherapy and Radiotherapy?
There is also POI which is unknown reason, could possibly be caused by genetics, infections or the autoimmune system.
Any loss of periods below 40 years of age should be investigated, and, any time there is no period there should be a review of cardiac and bone health. Ladies who are on the Progesterone only pill / Mirena coil will mostly stop their menses but if you feel that you are experiencing symptoms of menopause ( some are listed below) seek advice...
Our previous female orientated generations in the western world felt that they were put out to grass by the time they hit the menopause and expected to 'get on with it as part of life'. Some cultures celebrate the menopause as an achievement of wisdom and ageing and therefore less negative stigma. whereas, the western world portray it as negative with women and the menopause, therefore a taboo subject and symptoms reluctantly approached. There is a SWAN study for those of you interested who have looked at this in detail.
How do we know when we are affected by changes?
Perimenopause is well known to begin 10 years before we start the menopause. Did you know that it also starts for some in their 30s?
What might be the early symptoms -particularly in our younger years as could NOT possibly be menopause symptoms.
What is a regular length between cycles and menstruation?
Sudden changes in cycles- can be blamed on weight changes/ increased exercise but may well be co incidental.
Mental Health issues - Not always depression - can be related to low oestrogen levels.
The health risks are different for the perimenopause to the menopause and we should be treating the symptoms for this and NOT for the menopause.
We have the ability to treat holistically as well as with prescriptions - Both have a place in your care.
The mitochondria ( Battery cells) have a direct affect to the oestrogen levels and as they reduce so other symptoms occur-
some are listed , but as we know there can be many more symptoms-
De-stabalisation of skin health,
Hair changes- the hair breaks and split ends which is from a disturbance in the growth cycle.
Nails become brittle and break easier.
Increased weight around the abdomen
Hot Flashes
Pain during intercourse
Vaginal dryness
Menopause is a transition to the next chapter of our life. It does offer different possibilities for us to grow within ourselves and look at our priorities.
For some it is a loss of femininity, beauty, being sexually attractive and a feeling of less worth.
For others it can be quite liberating as no birth control to be concerned about!
BUT! This side of 50 years and menopause you will need to protect against conception for 2 years and the other side of 50 years you will need 1 year of protection.
Ladies! Let us embrace this next chapter, come and visit us for advice on your skin health, hair care. Approach the healthy gut and well being, different medications/ treatments- both holistic and prescription.
We are here to help where we are able and to support you through your journey.
Beaworthy Skin care still covers all of your skin care needs, remember that
from the age of 25- 30 years we lose 1% of our collagen a year- This accelerates to 30% after the age of 40 years. Signs of wrinkles and fine lines, reduced plumpness and shine to the face and neck as well as decolletage; and our hands age too! External environment as well as genetics play a large part in our aging process.
What can we do to help you?
Collagen Banking - using Lumixa collagen alongside the cube light on a red light encourages banking - great from the age of 25 years- this will help in years to come providing you keep up with your regular skin care. This is a great treatment for ladies up to 45 years after this we would look at treating you with Age Control.
We also have the Age Normaliser which revitalises and energises the skin as well as eases
inflammatory skin conditions such as Rosacea and acne.
CHEMICAL PEELS-
Chemical peels are a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that can improve the appearance of your skin by removing the top layers of skin and stimulating new skin growth:
Chemical peels can treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne, rosacea, sun damage, and precancerous growths.
The treatments can improve the texture and tone of your skin, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, age spots, and uneven skin
By treating your skin with chemical peel; the controlled damage caused by a chemical peel prompts your skin to regenerate, which can result in smoother, more youthful skin.
If you have this as a course of treatments it is a fact that any further treatments such as Lumixa/ plasma pen / wrinkle and filler treatment tend to be more effective for longer.
PLASMA PEN
This is another treatment and very popular with all genders - It is also licensed for 12 years and upwards for acne as it is an excellent treatment for sensitive skin.
WRINKLE TREATMENT
Those of us who prefer the instant outcome we have the wrinkle treatments .
I am very fond of Bocoture (TM) due to it being a more 'pure' wrinkle treatment than some of the alternatives available by containing less protein; therefore reducing the possibility of a reaction against the treatment. It also takes effect more rapidly giving my patient a faster response. THIS IS A PRESCRIPTION ONLY MEDICINE AND WILL NEED A SKIN CONSULTATION PRIOR TO TREATMENT.
FILLERS
Our Practice uses Teoxane and Belotero, Both extremely good fillers. My patients love Teoxane which provides a natural undetectable result- the filler moves with the facial features hydrating the skin . This is because of the Hyalauronic acid (HA) which has been modified in the filer to be as close to the body's natural HA. HA provides volume and lift and can also stimulate the collagen. Patients comment that friends can see that they look fresher but unsure what they have done!
Belotero may also be suitable for my other patients - It helps to enhance the skin by smoothing stubborn etched-in lines and wrinkles.
